"I took this in Haerbin, a city in northern China (close to the border with Russia). This city is famous for its annual ice festival, during which they use huge machines to cut blocks of ice from the river that runs through town, and then build countless structures, statues, buildings, walls, etc with it. When the weather starts warming up, the city has a party where everyone knocks the ice down with hammers and mallets."

"This prism was built in Paris in 1868, transported by boat to Panama and carried across the isthmus, then placed in the Yaquina Head lighthouse in Oregon. It projects light for ocean-going ships that can be seen 20 miles away."
